<br />BENEFITS - Privileges granted to an employee in the form ofleaves of absence, <br />insurance, or pay received in lieu of accrued leave upon termination of employment. <br /> <br />BENEFIT-EARNING STATUS - Status where employees are eligible for at least a pro- <br />rated portion of employer provided benefits. Employees must be year-round employees <br />working thirty (30) or more hours per week on a regular basis. <br /> <br />CITY ADMINISTRATOR - The City Administrator ofthe City of Blue Earth. <br /> <br />COUNCIL - The City Council of the City of Blue Earth. <br /> <br />EXEMPT EMPLOYEE - Employees not covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act. <br /> <br />FISCAL YEAR - The period from January 1 to December 31. <br /> <br />FULL-TIME EMPLOYEE - Employees regularly scheduled to work 40 or more hours <br />per week on a year-round basis. <br /> <br />NON-EXEMPT EMPLOYEE - Employees covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act. <br /> <br />PART-TIME EMPLOYEE - Employees who are scheduled to work less than forty (40) <br />hours per week on a year-round basis. <br /> <br />PAY PERIOD - A two-week period begiuning at 12:01 a.m. Sunday through 12:00 <br />midnight Saturday, two weeks later. <br /> <br />PROBATIONARY PERIOD - The first six-months of employment with the City or the <br />first six months in a new position for a regular City employee. This period is designated <br />as a probationary period and is considered the last part ofthe selection process. <br /> <br />PROMOTION - Movement of an employee from one job class to another within the <br />City, where the maximum salary for the new position is higher than that of the former <br />position. <br /> <br />REGULAR EMPLOYEE - An employee who has successfully completed all stages of <br />the selection process including the probationary period. <br /> <br />SEASONAL EMPLOYEE - An employee who works only part of the year to assist in <br />temporary, seasonal work such as lifeguarding, snow plowing, mowing, etc. <br /> <br />TEMPORARY APPOINTMENT - Appointment to a City position on a temporary <br />basis where no benefit-eligibility exists and no credit is given for seniority. <br />
