<br />City of Centerville <br />August 28, 2002 <br />Council Meeting Minutes <br /> <br />2. 2003 Tax Levy - Resolution #02-036 <br /> <br />Motion bv Council Member Nelson. seconded bv Mavor Swedben!: to lower the <br />current 2002 tax levy amount bv So;. for 2003 as that dollar amount $1,406.592 <br />constitutes a So;. reduction in the current levy for next year. Aves - 2. Navs - <br />3(Travis/Broussard Vickers/Capra). Motion failed. <br /> <br />Motion bv Council Member Broussard Vickers. seconded bv Council Member <br />Travis to approve Resolution #02-036 as presented. <br /> <br />Council Member Capra commented that by leaving the levy at last years levy and not <br />going to the maximum the City is reducing the overall City tax burden on the resident by <br />15.4%. <br /> <br />Mayor Swedberg commented that. even though he voted for the decrease, he would vote <br />for this because he is happy that the City will not be raising taxes. <br /> <br />Council Member Nelson explained that her vote would be no because she worked hard to <br />try to lower the tax levy to provide a 20% savings and that did not get approved. <br /> <br />VOTE: Aves - 4. N avs - l(N elson). Motion carried. <br /> <br />Council recessed at 8:19 p.m. <br /> <br />Council reconvened at 8:25 p.m. <br /> <br />3. Rescheduling of December 25.2002 Council Meeting <br /> <br />Ms. Paulseth indicated that she would recommend Monday, December 9, 2002 for the <br />truth in taxation hearing with December 16, 2002 as the continuation date. <br /> <br />Motion bv Council Member Nelson. seconded bv Council Member Broussard <br />Vickers to cbanl!e tbe December Council meetinl!s to December 9. 2002 and <br />December 19. 2002. All in favor. Motion carried unanimouslv. <br /> <br />4. Eminent Domain <br /> <br />Motion bv Council Member Broussard Vickers. seconded bv Council Member <br />Capra to cease eminent domain proceedinl!s. Aves - 4. Navs - l(Travis). Motion <br />carried. <br /> <br />5. Building Permit Fees <br /> <br />Council Member Capra suggested asking Staff to do a surveyor surrounding cities to <br />determine whether Centerville's fees are too high because she had heard that the City is <br />25% higher than the Uniform Building Code fees. <br /> <br />Page 9 of 18 <br /> <br />l__ <br />
