<br />Meeting Comments <br /> <br />The materials displayed at the Public Information Meeting were viewed intently by those in <br />attendance and County Staff Members and SRF Project Team Members were received many <br />comments and questions. The following themes were commonly addressed: <br /> <br />. Many concerns were expressed regarding potential environmental and cultural resources <br />including but not limited to impacts on area lakes and wetlands, the cemetery (Centerville) <br />and on the historic area ofCenterville. (Written Comments and Verbal Comments) <br /> <br />. Many residents and businesses owners that own property fronting on andlor getting access <br />directly from County Road 14 expressed concerns regarding potential impacts on their <br />properties. Current difficulty in getting on and off of County Road 14 during rush hour <br />periods was noted by many in attendance. (Written Comments and Verbal Comments) <br /> <br />· In general, there seemed to be strong support for providing alternative means of connecting <br />between 1-35W and 1-35E along the County Road 140 (northern) corridor. (Written <br />Comments and Verbal Comments) <br /> <br />. Strong opinions were also expressed by a more limited number of those providing written or <br />verbal comments that the major environmental impacts that would be caused by constructing <br />the northerly by-pass (County Road 140) would be unacceptable. (Written Comments and <br />Verbal Comments) <br /> <br />. The majority of written and verbal comments favored construction of an interchange at <br />County Road 14 and 1-35W. Generally this included a preference for either the northerly <br />connection at 140 or full-directional highway connection at 1-35W and 1-35E. <br /> <br />. Many meeting attendees expressed support for the construction of a pedestrian trail andlor <br />sidewalks along County Road 14, especially through Centerville. Project Team members <br />were provided with copies of a grant application submittal that proposes the Clearwater Trail <br />that would connect the Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Parks Regional Trail system to <br />Washington County's Hardwood Creek Trail in Hugo. (Written Comments and Verbal <br />Comments) <br /> <br />. Opinions differed regarding the number of lanes County Road 14 should have through <br />Centerville and along the stretch that passes between Peltier and Centerville Lake and <br />continues to 1-35W. Many individuals questioned the ability to widen County <br />Road 14 without unacceptable environmental impacts. Others thought that a minimum of <br />four lanes through Centerville from I-35E would be necessary to handle anticipated traffic <br />demands. A lot of opinions emphasized a need for turn lanes at key intersections and public <br />access points such as the boat launch and County Park access points. (Written Comments <br />and Verbal Comments) <br /> <br />· Many questions related to financial issues such as available funding for the project and <br />concerns were expressed that additional resources would be needed to construct <br />improvements proposed in several of the options. Comments made clear that a majority of <br />
