"",,:~:',;j}III!,!,l!ll''':.> Background In 1997, the City of Centerville was looking to create a web site for informational purposes, and Media Junction was a new business in Centerville. The City asked Media Junction to develop a web site. Media Junction created the web site (www.centervillemn.com) at no cost and charges the city $50 per month for host fees. Any updates to the web site are sent to Media Junction, and the City is charged a discounted rate of $40 per hour. The updates could be done electronically, either e- mailing or sending a disc, or Media Junction could type the information onto the web site. Currently, the web site has five sections with nested sections as follows: I. About Us . City History · Park and Recreation . Education . Location . Statistics · City Celebration . Newsletter 2. Businesses · Local listing and links to business in Centerville 3. Citizen Resources . Newsletter · Park and Recreation · Comprehensive Plan · Design Team Sketches 4. Contact us 5. Government · Council Evaluation The purpose of the Communication Task Force is to evaluate current systems and recommend methods that enhance participation from the citizens of Centerville. The Internet is changing the way we work, interact, look for information, and order goods and services. City halls are learning their citizens expect the same online access to their city government. Citizens want to be able to log on to their city's web site and register their kids for a summer program, notifY the public works department about a pothole in: their neighborhood, or fmd out what happened at Wednesday night's City Council meeting. City officials and staff, in turn, are looking for efficient and effective ways to communicate with their citizens, businesses, and community organizations.
