Most
people appreciate the opportunity to meet individually with the consultant
and to share their views. These conversations yield information that may
not come forth in any other manner.

On Site Work
A working charrette in Centerville would produce unique opportunities
for public interaction. Ideally, the charrette might occur in a storefront or
other location in the Downtown. Such a location would allow the public
to watch the planoing and design work evolve in front of their eyes; allow
people to drop in for conversations with the consultants; and perhaps
provide inspiration for designers and the public by putting them in position
to visualize design concepts from ground level. During the preparation of
the Hutchinson Downtown Redevelopment Plan, a Main Street storefront
location was made available for use during the duration of the project. The
space was used for both working project charrettes as well as project area
open houses.

On Site Displays
HKGi continually seeks new ways to disseminate project information and
to gain public feedback. During the recent preparation of the Excelsior
Downtown Revitalization Plan, a building owner constructed an enclosed
display case for the continuous presentation of project graphic materials.
At a prominent corner of downtown, we were able to post the latest ideas,
meeting notices, maps and graphics to keep people apprised of the planoing
process. In Hastings, we posted planoing concepts on a large (paper covered)
graffiti wall allowing people to grab a marker and express their opinions in
either text or graphic forms.
