I

,

. The ground breaking
The ground breaking ceremony for the new facility was held on Monday,
March 22nd at 4:00 p.m. Dick Swanson, Chair of the Cable Commission,
served as the Master of Ceremony.
Harley Wells, Vice Chair, talked about
the history of the Commission and I
talked about the future of the Media
Center. Mayor pro tiem of Blaine,
Russ Herbst, welcomed us to our new
location and members of the Metro
North Chamber of Commerce were
there to lend their support. Norm
Handy, the principal of Blaine High
School also attended the event.

Let's get this building underway!

. Construction
Once the process of actually putting the building together started it
seemed to move very quickly. One day it was a field covered with trees,
the next it had a very large building on it. The construction actually started
at the end of March and wrapped up the second week of September. We
monitored progress on the building via our website. Each week photos

and narrative regarding the project were updated. Old photos were
archived so folks could see the changes being made.

. Data/Phone network
There were a few projects that didn't come under the purview of Gen^Con.
Two of those projects included the phone and data networks. Rose
worked very hard at coordinating these projects. She met with countless
contractors, designed the systems, and supervised the installation of the
infrastructure. The result? A VOIP phone system and state of the art fiber
data network that provides us limitless growth potential. Our data network
is truly one of the shining jewels of this entire project. With it, we can
transfer data from anywhere in the building to our servers. This will allow
us to edit or program the channels from our desks. People will also be
able to save programs directly to a server, skipping the need for videotape
altogether.

18
