. Studio lighting grids
This was the second major project we handled on our own. We issued
invitations to bid on a comprehensive lighting system for two studios. In
the end Norcostco won the bid and we began
working with them. Aric Otzelberger was
charged with leading this project. He worked
closely with the contractor to determine the
lighting grid, lighting equipment, curtain track,
curtain, and electrical needs for both studios.
We saved quite a bit of money by utilizing
some lights, dimmer packs, and curtains from
Aric han9ing studio lights our previous location. A timeline for installation
was coordinated with the building progress.
Staff did as much of the work ourselves as we could. That included the
actual hanging of the lights and curtains.

. Master Control
While all of us love everything about the new building, master control is
the diamond on top of the ring. It serves .
as the nerve center for our entire
operation. Our phone, data, security,
and channel playback systems are all
routed through this space. With the
equipment that Alpha Video installed, we
have the ability to program 12 channels
from our server based playback system.
We are no longer tied to the number of
. tape decks we have when it comes to Master Control
program scheduling. With a server based system all that matters is how
much hard-drive space you have. We have a lot. It wilt not be long before
we are able to program the government channels, for cities, utilizing this
new system.

. The move
The last part of August through mid-September was spent packing up the
old facility. This required tearing apart a lot of video systems so it was
delicate and time-consuming work. The official move took place on
September 16th. Staff had their new offices pretty well organized by the
end of September. We were officially vacated from our old premises as of
October 31S\ 2004. That was a very joyous day. The edit suites, control
room, and equipment check-out areas were up and functional in the new
building by mid-November.

19
