of downtown. Jim March explained that there is a Cooperative Trail grant for up to $50k with a 1:1
match that could be used for this trail. however. applications are due in February! It would be a shame
to miss this grant as it sounds like it would apply perfectly.
2.From Lamotte Park try to run a trail through or on the edge of the church property.
This suggestion attempts to keep the trail off of the road and away from residential housing. Perhaps
someone could work with the church to find some mutually beneficial arrangement. For instance,
perhaps the church would allow the trail if they could use the school for class space. The group
identified a person who might pursue such arrangements.
3.Attempt to ensure a connection to the Wargo Nature Center.
A connection to Wargo will most likely happen as long as #1 happens. Anoka Parks have plans for the
trail that would connect at Lamotte Park to snake through the park and reach Wargo.
4.Connect to a possible Hugo trail.
There are apparently plans for a trail to go from St Paul to Duluth through Hugo. A connection to that
trail might be possible from 20 on a possible " Greenway" along Clearwater Creek east,or, perhaps it
will have to run on County 14 east to Hugo. In any case, according to Jim March, there are plans to
add another pipe to an easement area just south of Lamotte Park straight east to 20 This is
apparently called the Centerville Interceptor project and offers an opportunity to put a trail running
east/west between Centerville road and 20 starting just south of Lamotte Park With the digging
scheduled for the new pipe. a trail could be consturcted for not much more money. Now would be the
time to install the trail, before the land to the south is developed. This trail is highly recommended for
two reasons. First, it will allow Centerville residents safe and convenient access to Lamotte Park.
Second, when a connection is made to the Hugo trail, this route is tied nicely to the Anoka Park trails
and it offers a route that is not near a busy street. It also runs close to a possible Greenway route, if
that ever happened.
5.* *Complete a circle route around Centerville Lake.
Property just north of the rectory seems available for purchase. Anoka County is apparently acquiring this
property. This land is key to the Design Team idea allowing access to the lake as a scenic overlook
and a route for a trail to circumnavigate Centerville Lake. If at all possible. this land should be
acouired for those purposes.
6.lnvestigate other possible trails or loops in the city.
20 street may offer some trail possibilities, and there may be other areas where trails may be desirable.
This is just a reminder that other areas not yet considered might offer trail possibilities.
Lakes
1.* *Provide lake access and a fishing pier at Lamotte Park.
Jim March explained that some St Paul Water Utility lakefront may be available for purchase, and that it
is right across from Lamotte Park. The timing and opportunity couldn't be better! Public parking will
be available in Lamotte Park and a fishing pier would be ideal. Jim explained that a $20k grant is
available from the DNA. Peltier Lake has a fishing pier because of similar grant funds that were
available.
2.* *Provide lake access and an overlook downtown.
As explained in the trails section #5, lakeshore property just north of the rectory is key. If this property is
not acquired now, the city or Anoka County may never get another chance. I believe Jim March said
there was a Natural Scenic grant that might cover some of this cost.
3.Provide a connection between the lakes.
When County road 14 might be reconstructed, as it will need to be at some point, pursue plans for a bridge
to allow small boat traffic between the lakes. The bridge should also provide for bike traffic to allow
the circular route around Centerville Lake.
Parks
1.* *Equipment grants.
Jim March explained that Outdoor Recreation grants are available for playground equipment, shelters, etc.
2.* *Park Grants
