MEMO
DATE : March 17, 1999
TO : Honorable Mayor and Council
FROM : Jim March
RE : Mailbox stands for Parkview Addition
*************************** * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * ** **
I had a conversation with Rick Carlson (Developer) of Parkview Addition. Mr. Carlson indicated
that he would be interested in being allowed to construct his own mailbox stands in Parkview
Addition. Mr. Carlson would like the City to reimburse him the $25 that we collect with each
building permit to help defray the cost of construction of the stands.
Mr. Carlson hires a local contractor to construct the stands out of rough sawn cedar. I have seen
the stands in developments in Lino Lakes and they are much more attractive than the stands that
we currently Stall ourselves. Mr. Carlson thought his cost per stand would be $150 to $200.
The City currently breaks even on the stands we install at approximately $100 a piece.
If the developer is interested in paying the additional costs for the construction of his own stands,
I would recommend that we reimburse him the amount the City received via building permits and
allow Mr. Carlson to construct and install his own mailbox stands in Parkview Addition. I am
including a rough sketch of the stands that Mr. Carlson installs in his other developments.
