J , •
3. Grant application writing can be a large task, but the rewards for success can also be large. The City
Administrator has approached existing committees and asked about writing grant applications, but he has
not gotten a favorable response. This committee could investigate the grants available and perhaps some of
the 80 volunteers would be willing to help with grant applications. Or, perhaps members of the committee
might try it, or, at least a cost benefit recommendation could be made for hiring the job out. Just recently,
an intern, who has since left, did much of the work of writing grant applications.
4. One Design Team recommendation was to write a set of guidelines for developers. Everyone thought
this was a good idea, however, no one has been able to get to it. The Long -term Committee might find a
way to get this done.
5. Many of the Design Team drawings are out of date. Some drawings might be updated with current
thinking or new perspectives might be done to show possibilities.
Again, existing committees and City staff are so busy with current tasks, that there is insufficient time for them
to cover all these items. This Long -term Planning Committee could try to cover these and other long -term
issues and opportunities. This committee is also a vehicle for getting some of the 80 volunteers active. This
committee might only be active for 5 or 6 years as by then, the City will be almost all developed. This is a
critical time for the City to have a Long -term Committee. By establishing this committee, it seems the City has
nothing to lose and everything to gain. Isn't it worth a try?
Thank you for considering this request.
Wayne LeBlanc
P.S.
