J. Heider (1744 Center Street) felt the youth in the community need to be
educated on the use of snowmobiles.
J. Steele (6926 Sumac Court) questioned how the sleds can get to the trails.
Randy Nugent (Lino Lakes) urged the education of the youth.
J. Lindsay (1687 Sorel Street) stressed that the community must work together.
E. Larson (1957 73 Street) does not want to see personal freedoms limited.
T. Ditfriable (Lino Lakes) felt the Police Department should give out less
warnings and more fines. Also, more citizens should join the snowmobile club.
S. Dash (Cottonwood Court) suggested posting on the marquee sign in front of
City Hall when the Rice Creek Snowmobile Trail Association is having their next
meeting.
Council Member Broussard Vickers read several complaint letters sent in by
residents who were unable to attend the meeting. She added that the City Council
has to consider the whole City, not just the 50 people who are in attendance at the
meeting. The citizens who are at the meeting do not represent the entire City.
Council Member Travis stressed that it is not a "right" of a snowmobiler to
snowmobile wherever they want, or on another's private property. It is a
"privilege" to snowmobile not a right. It is the "right" of a person to live in
Centerville and be able to go out onto their property without being run over by a
snowmobile or to be worried about their children or pets going outside. Privileges
can be taken away if they are abused.
Russ Lawrence (7165 Clear Ridge) stressed that if the City Council bans
snowmobiles, they also take away the ability to call upon snowmobilers in
emergency situations for their assistance in getting to others who are unreachable.
L. Bigelow (7143 Shad Ave.) stressed that citizens need to let the Council know
about problems that arise. If the council isn't aware of the problems, they cannot
address them.
J. Fischback (1684 Lakeland Circle) has lived in Centerville for six (6) years, and
stressed that snowmobilers need to ride on the trails, not the streets.
Russ Lentz questioned who puts on the stings. He added, more tickets should be
issued.
Rob Sheppard (1935 73 Street) mentioned he has never seen an officer or DNR
person on any of the trails. Mr. Sheppard stressed the need to educate the
citizens. Mr. Sheppard suggested the City could get a list of registered
snowmobile owners from the DNIL
5
