The Committee discussed the upcoming Wheels Park 1Vleeting, and how they would like
to conduct the meeting. Afer discusszon, the Committee directed. Ms. I.ien to do the
following before the meeting:
l. Obtain picturs offthe Internet of equipment offered by both vendors, to hang
and distnbute at the meeting.
2. Create a voting ballot for the youth to vote on their choice of vendor, and what
pxeces of eqtupment they would like to see.
3. Create some type of "Code of Conduct" that the youth will need to sign,
specifying responsbility, respect, maintenance, ownership, timefratnes, and
the fact that the park and/or admittance into tlie park can be taken away if
abused.
Mr. Lee questioned if helmets a.nd pads would be required. Mr. Peterson explained the
requirements of a Tier I Skate Pazk, and the fact that prcper signage i a key component
in requiring helmets and pads, or not. We would need to have a sign that reads `t.ide at
Your Own Risk". Mr. Peterson has been in conta.ct with the League of Mirulesota Cities
and when we are at the point of constructing signs, he has a conta.ct to help with the
proper verbia.ge. !
I
Ths Committee briefly discussed the possibility of a Grand Upening. I
I
McBride Park Timbers and Brush Abuttin,..g Pond j
Mr. Walter exlained he had visited McBride Pazk and had come tv the eonclusion that
not all of the timbers will need to tse replaced. Approximateiy 17 will need replaement. I
Mr. Peterson had pounaed down the nails that wer popping out, but it is a temporary fix.
They wilt pop out again. Mr. VUalter elanaed that because there isn't any type of
support on the outside of the timbrs, they are leaning outward due to the amount of
pressure fram the sand inside. If dirt were buiit up around the outside of the timbers it
would keep them from leaning. Mr. LeBlanc commented that maybe the Committee '
should consider a more permaent soution. If the Cominittee just replaces the timbers,
the same thing will happn again in a few yeazs, and the Committe well be Iooking at the
sane problem all over. Mr. Walter felt a more equita.ble solution would be to spend
approximately $3,400 now to repiace the 17 timbers vs, spending a substantial amount
more to re-do the entire play azea with fibar and conerete. He didn't feel comfortable
investing a lot of money into an already estab}ished park, for a border that already exists.
There are some areas in the City that don't have an.ything. Even if it means this is just a
temporary fiac that buys the Committee five or six years.
Mr. Peterson mentioned there are two (2) benches at McBride Park that aze wobbly and
worn. He would le to replace them with two (2) benches that are currently in storage at
Public Works. The Committee agreed with the replacement.
5
