� The Need for an Added Interchan�e at I35E and I35W

<br /> A huge area of lakes and natural wetlands 12 rniles long forms a"road blockade" for east/west travel forcing traffic
<br /> through downtown Centerville on Main Street. Although somewhat tolerable now, as development and density in
<br /> the area increases, the resulting increased volume of traffic threatens to ruin the community. City of Centerville
<br /> officials and residents all agree that Main Street should NOT become a major thoroughfare for the whole area and
<br /> Main Street should remain 2lanes with slow moving traffic. If it becomes a 41ane fast moving thoroughfare, the
<br /> added width will force demolition of many valuable and historic buildings in downtown Centerville and the
<br /> resulting mass of traffic will divide the City of Centerville in two. The map below shows how traffic along an area
<br /> 12 miles long is forced to travel Main Street through Centerville to go east from the Blaine area or to go west from
<br /> the Hugo area.
<br /> The City of Centerville has looked at a number of options, but the only remaining effective option seems to be an
<br /> added interchange at the I35W and I35E intersection that would allow traffic to go from I35W to I35E and traffic
<br /> on I35E to go to I35W. This interchange might also be less expensive than rebuilding Main Street through miles
<br /> and miles of wetlands. This new interchange could allow fizrther improved traffic flow in the distant future with
<br /> possible added interchanges at 80"' Street and I35E and at Main Street and I35W.
<br /> Any information on how we might help bring this new interchange about would be appreciated. Are there funding
<br /> or resources available for studies, planning, and implementation for this interchange?
