i
Lakes
1. Proide lake access and a fishing pier at Lamotte Park.
; Jim March explained that some St Paul Water UtiIitp Iakefront mav be available for parchase, and that it is risht across
fram Lamotte Park. The timin a nd opportunitv couldn't be better! Public parking will be available in Lamotte Park and
a fishing pier would be ideal. Jim explained that a$20k grant is avai(ab(e from the DNR. Peltier Lake has a fishing pier
because of similar grant funds that were available.
2. Provide lake access and an overlook downtown.
As expiained in the trails section #5, lakeshore property just north of the rectory is key. If this property is not acquired
now, the city or Anka County may never get anther chance. I believe Jim March said there was a Natural Scenic grant
that miht cover some of this cost.
3. Proide a connectian between Yhe lakes.
When County road 14 might be recanstructed, as it will need to be at some point, pursue plans for a bridge to allow
small boat traiiic between the lakes. The bridge should also proide for bike traffic to allow the circular route around
Centenille Lake. (See attachment.)
Parks
1. Equipment grants.
Tim March explained that Outdoor Recreation grants are availaole for playground equipment, shelters, etc.
. Park Grants
7im March eYplained that there may from $SOk to $ZSOk aailable for certain redevelopment or developments of parks.
3. Don't necessarily completely pave the Lamotte ParL: par[iing lot.
Lmotte Park has a large parl:ing lot. Here's an idea to consider: instead of pang the whole parking lot, consider using
special "blocks" that allow grass to grow between them. For, say, one fourth to one half of the lot, use normal pavin as
rass could not take constant use. But, the lot appears to be sized for the biest anticipated athering, and for these
occasions, parking on the "blocks" would probably work very welL This allows more area of the park to look green, i
and, in addition, would reduce hard surface runoffpollution for the nearby lake. I
4. Landscaping. I
Jeff Gibbens pointed out that the linnesota Department of Transportation, where he works, has programs to help !
communities with landscaping. There were several conditions. Although not directly in Centerville, the program might I
prvic3e rzsources to help urith landscaping that would better hide 3SW fiom certain areas in Anoka Park aid also the I
city of Centercille — people on Peltier lake, for example, are well aware of 35W. Conditions includa a need for I
votunteers far planting, property adjacent to DOT praperty, an official request from local government, among others. I
7'hese MnDQT programs offer an opportunity for funding that should be pursued.
It was the feeling of the group that we should s±art with hiah expectations and only lower them if ve hae to. The timin of
the Design Team suggestions, Anoka County Park plans and improvements, Lamotte Prk plans, and other coincidental I
activities offer once in a commututy lifetime opportunities that shoutd not be missed. Please help make these dreams come j
true. Current and futu; e residents of Centerville wiIl be thankful.
Thar.l:s to everyone participating in the most recent Trails, Parks, and Lakes meeting:
Jeff Gibbens, ivlary Kupher, Chuck Brenner, Shelly LaBarre, Robert Goldsmith, and Wayne LeBlanc
And the meeting before that:
Jenifer Kaczmarski„ Lori Drn, Shelly LaBarre, Molly Nelson, Hatem Qamhieh, Ka1ib Gallegos, and V1'a.yne LeBlanc
And the meeting before that:
Erick Marshall, Rick Paulsen, Gary Barott, Shelly LaBarre, and Wayne LeBlanc
2
