They have some tenants that
feel the sewer bill is high. Ms. Ackerman called Judy at White Bear Township to
discuss the bill and was told by Judy to talk to Mike Johnson who understands sewer
accessibility charges. When Ms. Ackerman called Mike Johnson, she was told to call
the Met Council. She then called Met Council and talked to three or four people
regarding this issue. What she found out was their property is based on a car wash
versus a car dealership business. Their business is billed based on 11 SAC units
versus one SAC unit. Ms. Ackerman of Vera Auto Sales is asking the City of Gem Lake
to reduce the SAC unit billing for their property.
Mayor Uzpen stated the City of Gem Lake has an Ordinance (64E) that covers sewer
and how it is based on property versus the SAC Units. Gem Lake City Council sets the
rates. The sewers are inspected bi-yearly and flushed bi-yearly. The sewer for Vera
Auto Sales was relined a few years ago. Mayor Uzpen stated all this information
including Ordinance 64E is on the website. The owners are requesting that Gem Lake
City Council look into this situation. The owners of Vera Auto Sales want to go on
record asking where the money is going regarding the sewer fund and sewer ordinance
billing.
The City Council has $34,000 in the sewer fund per year. It goes into an enterprise
fund. Each year the money from the fund goes towards flushing, maintenance,
replacing sewer lines, etc. with all residential and commercial properties within the City
of Gem Lake. Mayor Uzpen explained the process of billing and working with White
Bear Township and the costs administration duties paid to White Bear Township.
It was discussed between the City Council members and it was decided that Gem Lake
needs to talk to Judy and Mike from White Bear Township regarding credit to Vera Auto
Look for us on the World Wide Web at gemlakemn.org
