Program Planning Committee Report for 08 -09 -2011 HRC Meet ing 2
Commission’s web page…as it has for similar city projects…. Carolyn Curti has
kindly volunteered to publish the press release on the Task Force’s Community
Meeting: Neighbor -to -Neighbor event of September 14 th . We have not yet heard,
however, about the availability of a web page for the Civic Engagement project.

Project 515 Program Update
A date and place has been selected for this p rogram on the civil rights of gays
and lesbians. We are now scheduled for the evening of Wednesday, October 4 th ,
in the Rose Room at the Roseville Skating Center.
The Shoreview Human Rights Commission has agreed to cosponsor this event.
A copy of Project 515’s informational brochure is enclosed in your meeting
packet.
Report and Recommendations on Planning Community Dialogues

Background: As requested by the Commission Carolyn Curti had originally sent
out an email on Thursday, July 14, 2011, inquiring fro m past planning committee
members for their interest in partaking in this year’s planning. By July 18, there
had only been two responses showing interest: Commissioner Brisbois and Thao,
and one response with a rejection/decline to participate in planning this year’s
forum.

In the absence of any volunteers the Program Planning Committee (PPC) invited
Thelma McKenzie to meet with it and scheduled a meeting on July 21 st .
McKenzie and Brisbois were not able to make the meeting..

The purpose of this planning meeting was to assess last year’s evaluation of the
2010 forum provided by the previous planning group , consider whether to
continue t he format of that 2010 forum and the previous two forums, and if
needed to discuss other ideas, suggestions, and alternat ive formats for future
forum (s).

The paragraph outlined in blu e below is the Committee’s recommendation for
Commission consideration.

Recommendation : Due to the lack of interest from past planning committee
participants (with the significant exception of JC Penny’s Barbara Bell and Brian
Dorr), it is essential that a new group of advisory committee members be
formed. This advisory planning committee would work with the Program
Planning Committee in recommending to the Commission a series of community
dia logues for next year. The Program Planning Committee in consultation with
this advisory committee would recommend specific dialogue formats and topics .
Both the PCC and the Advisory Committee would be responsible for executing the
forums once approved by the HRC.
