now it is proposed to let people park on the church side.
tssuming that you vote yes on this today. So what would happen
if its. . . the question, if you widen 5 feet on each side, if
you widen on the church side, if you can park on both sides, if
you don't widen on the west side, over toward the side where the
homes are, you are going to find cars coming down the street, the
34 foot street, and encountering a row of parked cars directly in
their path. I guess, I would not recommend that.

COUNCILMAN: The proposal would only make sense if parked on
the church side of the street.

HONCHELL: Right now the parking that is proposed is on the
church side. To make it work on both sides you would also have
to go over one side.

COUNCILMAN: (inaudible) then on Sunday morning you
could widen the church part of the street. You could do that.
There wouldn't be any interference 'of traffic. If you had the
parking then that would be on the what, west side of the street,
as a norm?

.

MAYOR: Do we have enough right-of-way for that?

HONCHELL: We have enough right away. We've got 66 feet, I
believe. It would take some time to match some driveways that
are also over on the west side that are very close today to gara-
ges. If you recall, Fernwood is a street where historically the
lots are very short and small. 40 foot lots. People have one
lot or a lot and a half or two lots and there really wasn't
enough room for a corner lot but that's what happened. So many
of the driveways and garages are pretty close to the driveway
lot. The big picture we are trying to do. plus recoup by having a
narrow street as well to give people as much room as possible to
negotiate out. Near the narrow is some of the same problems.
Between Ryan and Roselawn. In other words, it wouldn't be too
much of a problem between Ryan and Roselawn to have a 44 foot
wide street to provide parking on both sides of the street. I am
saying it certainly could be done. If we did it we would have to
determine where we are going to put it. From a traffic stand-
point, we would want to not have the south bound traffic
encounter a row of parked cars. And if we jog the road toward
the west to allow another no parking on the west that means we
will be bringing it closer to those four homes that exist on the
west side. It doesn't mean it couldn't happen. You know that
would be my recommendation that we have to widen the road either
5 feet on each side or preferably to the west. We don't want
people having to jog lanes to either cross intersections on the
south or the from the north in the south bound direction. You
wouldn't be able to park from about half way up the first lot
from Roselawn. In fact, I think there are some "no parking"
signs near the corner now. You could park close to that way. Do
you have to know the answer?

-6-
