Request for Council Action <br /> Date: 02/28/00 <br /> Item Number: E-3 <br /> Department Approval Manager Approval Agenda Section <br /> Organizational Business <br /> Item Description: <br /> Approval of the 2000 City Council Standing Rules of Procedure <br /> Background <br /> Each year the City Council considers the Rules of Procedure to guide the conduct of official business at council <br /> meetings and work sessions. <br /> The purpose of this review is to periodically evaluate and, if warranted,modify Rules of Procedure in order to <br /> facilitate the flow of business, better accomplish the workings of the City Council meetings and to promote better <br /> public understanding and involvement. As such, the Rules of Procedure have undergone considerable discussion <br /> and modification over the years. They are in fact considered under constant review and may be modified by the City <br /> Council at any time during the calendar year. <br /> Recent discussions have emphasized placing more of routine business on the Consent Agenda in order to focus more <br /> time and attention on major issues. <br /> Council Action Requested <br /> Motion to approve the Calendar Year 2000 Standing Rules of Procedure. <br />
