making sure that reports are entered promptly(within 2 days) so that
computerized searches by officers doesn't result its dead ends. It will also be
useful in rung meani
nni ngful reports to properly deploy patrol officers and to
determine the need for directed patrol.
5. Portable Identification Station - In the case of minor offenses and/or first time
offenders, many people who are arrested by Roseville police are immediately
released once their identification has been established. This is done through
fingerprints and photographs. It is time-consuming for officers to transport the
wrested party downtown to the jail a ust to have them released. If we could do this
on site, more officer time would be available for patrol.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS
The grant rewires a % contribution by the City, or approximately $35,000. In the ease of
personnel, the grant can be extended up to three years. with the exception of the portable
booking station, all of these items are in the Department's 1 999 Budget bequest. They are not
part of a wish list, rather they are items we have considered carefully, in some instances for
several years.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
oMMENDATION
We recommend the police Department complete and submit the above-referenced grant
application.
COUNCIL ACTION REQUEST EI
Authorize the City///Manager and Chief of Police to submit the COPS MORE grant application.
