Performs emergency snow and ice control activities <br /> c. Assigned to Utility on call duty and responds to after hour call backs <br /> d. Maintains State license requirements as sewer/water operator <br /> e. Ability to perform street maintenance assignments (i.e., patching, seal coating, <br /> crack sealing, snow plowing, hauling materials, equipment operations, storm <br /> sewer repair/maintenance, concrete curb/sidewalk repair/maintenance, tree <br /> trimming, signs, etc.) <br /> f Ability to perform basic trade skills assignments (i.e., basic carpentry, welding <br /> skills, painting, etc.) <br /> g. Routine equipment maintenance skills <br /> h. Ability to perform job responsibilities in climatic extremes <br /> i. Basic knowledge of computer programs and GPS system. <br /> 3. Central Garage Mechanic and Working Foreman (Basic Position Duties) <br /> a. Performs skilled repairs and preventative maintenance on City fleet of vehicles <br /> and equipment <br /> b. Orders and maintains parts inventory and general shop supplies <br /> c. Coordinates and schedules maintenance and repair with various City departments <br /> d. Keeps accurate records of purchases and service activities as directed by the <br /> Superintendent <br /> e. Working foreman position directly supervises the mechanic <br /> f. Responds to emergencies <br /> g. Functions as a backup snow plow operator <br /> h. Keeps vehicle maintenance shop clean, orderly, and safe and maintains <br /> maintenance equipment and shop tools. <br /> If the Council approves the above transfers, the position of Central Garage Mechanic would <br /> require Council authorization to proceed with the recruitment process to till the remaining <br /> vacated position. <br /> Policy Objectives: In order to provide cost effective, timely, and efficient maintenance services <br /> to residents and visitors to the City, skilled maintenance employees are needed to deliver these <br /> services at desired and acceptable levels in accordance with City directives and policy. <br /> All the requested positions are necessary to maintain our ability to provide services at current <br /> levels. The Streets and Utility Divisions each have 1 supervisor and 8-y2 maintenance <br /> employees. The Central Garage employs a working mechanic foreman and a mechanic who <br /> report directly to the Public Works Superintendent. <br />
