P age 2
The first of these projects to be constructed will be the Lexington Avenue Renovation.
Since a contract has already been awarded for this work, kt is unlikely that ma jor design
changes could be made without significant cost.
The second to be implemented will be Intersection Improvements—County Road B at
Lexington and afie. Since this project is still being designed, it is possible to modify
the Counter's plans to fit our future Cornerstone project. As this project proceeds, the
following question need to be resolved:
Should we proceed with the proposed Ramsey County street improvements?
The Counter has prepared plans that provide dedicated left turn lanes on County
Road B and maintain two travel lanes in each direction. This plan does have
significant impacts to adjoining properties and requires intersection widening of
up to 15 feet, sidewalk relocation and the purchase of additional right-of-way.
The County has presented an alternative to the Harrel ine Avenue intersection
design that would extend an additional landscaped median from Ham]ine Avenue
to Albert Street, the first street west.
Pros of current County proposal.-
Preserves cast/west traffic capacity as directed by Council
Provides an opportunity for landscaped islands
Counter participation in low purchase
Construction project allows other improvements to be made
Cons of Current County proposal:
Increased road width at intersection—10 to 12 feet total
Loss of left turn access to properties
Construction Disruption
Cost 155009000 ($1,200,000 ITEA grant)
