could be wheeled closer to tables making it easier for members to see during a
presentation, plus it has significantly greater resolution.
Problem: Switcher is wearing out.
Priority: Medium
Solution: Replace switcher with a new model that will be digitally compatible.
Problem: Control room is cramped and not laid out well for ergonomics or for accessing
equipment for repairs.
Priority: Medium
Solution: We will not expand the current control room until decisions are made about
the expansion of City Fall and adding a new Council Chambers. Instead we
will add a door or panel in the hallway behind the main equipment rack. W e
will also explore ways to layout the equipment in the room to better meet the
needs of the Video Assistants.
Problem: Poor video quality of camcorder used for field production.
Priority: LOW
Solution: CTV has switched to digital camcorders and is switching its editing suites to
digital formats. We will hold off on replacing the SVPIS camcorder until we
learn more about CTV's equipment and its availability. Similarly we will hold
off on installing a non-linear editing system in the control room until we learn
more about the availability of the CTV facilities.
Problem: Unable to hear people in the audience who talk but do not go to the
presentation desk.
Priority: LOW
Solution: Install ceiling mounted microphones. They will be routed out over the
playback audio, but not the room audio to prevent feedback. This does not
happen often, so the need is not as great for Council Meetings. However, the
ceiling microphones will make it easier to tape presentations and forums in the
room that involve audience participation.
3
