* Commercial Refrigeration Systems will be the refrigeration system and rink
floor pi " g installer. Commercial refrigeration recently completed the
installation of the ammonia operated . ice systems at the Hibbing and
Chisholm ice arenas and has installed over 15 ice rink refrigeration systems
since 1982.
* The rink floor piping system will be supplied by Fransta Isteknik from
Sweden. Fransta has developed a fusion welded polyethylene piping system
which has been used in over 40 ice sheets designed for Bandy and. Speed
Skating similar to this installation. A design and installation representative
from Fransta will be on site throughout the piping installation to ensure
that the piping is installed to their proven standards.
Jesco Concrete and Masonry Contractors will be- the installer of all of the
rink floor concrete. Jesco has an excellent reputation in the industry and
has poured and finished approximately 75 ice rink slabs.
Alternate Bids 1 -4 were considered in the evaluation process but are not recommended for the
following reasons:
Alternate No. 1
This alternate calls for 4 inches of subfloor insulation in lieu of the 3 inches specified. Four
inches of insulation is required only if the operating season of the ice sheet is to be lengthened
more than two weeks beyond the four month design condition. It is our understanding that an
extension of the ice season
beyond this requirement will not be needed. Based on this
y
information we do net recommend acceptance of this alternate.
Alternate No.
An additional 90 tons of refrigeration capacity was included with this alternate to enhance
system performance during unseasonable warn weather during the design period and allow for
a two to three weep extension of the ice season. "ibis additional 90 tons of refrigeration
capacity was included in the base bid of the Shingobee group so no further consideration is
required.
Alternate No, 3
This alternate modified the project warranty from one year to two years. The most critical
project component which is vulnerable to service or repair is the compressors. The Vilter
Compressors which are proposed for the Shingobee group carry a two ) year warranty which
would cover two seasons of operation. In addition, the prefabricated polyethylene pipe headers
ca a two ear warran against leakage. When combining these manufacturer's warranties
With the excellent qualifications of the installing contractors, we feel the two year project
warranty has diminish ed returns and is not necessary.
Page 3.
425 o. cor
