City Manager's 2004 Budget Recommendations
chemicals and test the pool water daily each sum -
mer. Other private and public pools are available,
such as the Shoreview YMCA., Shoreview Commu-
nity Center, and Maplewood Community Center.
iii, Aggressive slate park: equipment is reaching the
end of its useful life; high maintenance, lover use ac-
tivity; requires a 10,000 tax subsidy annually to
break even. Other aggressive slate parks are avail-
able.
iv. Fireworks Display: savings of $10,000 in avoiding
the cost of fireworks, a licensed fireworks contrac-
tor, and city staff for a 20 minute display once a
year. Other fireworks displays are available nearby
in celebration of duly 401 and nightly throughout
the "Taste of Minnesota" event in St. Paul.
K. Reduce the City's contribution to the 1-35W Corridor Coalition
and the Roseville Ambassador Association. $14,000.
L Explanation: Council is currently spending
$35,000 per year on oseville's 1-35W Corridor Coa-
lition membership. For 2004, the Council just
recommended reducing by 0% or more Roseville's
funding for the Ramsey County League of Kcal
Governments, Accordingly, I recommend the 1-35W
Corridor Coalition funding be reduced 0 %.
ii. Explanation: Council is currently spending $5,000
per year for the Ambassador Association to support
a poise and beauty contest and to -have the female
ambassadors attend public events. Until last year,
this activity was supported solely and very success -
fully by the private sector. This expenditure of pub-
lic funds is hard to ,justify as a care City function
when it was so successfully run solely with private
sector funds and when the City is losing $700,000
in annual funding and incurring $1.375 million
more in annual expenses.
L. Cut general government expenses in Administration and Fi-
nance:
0
