Although, we have
extended ourselves to achieve Food public relations we cannot be all
things to all people and when gathered into the overall group:
recreational boaters we are often the target of complaints directed at,
boaters in general and more ,specifically against those with larger
boats, possibly because o -ur boats have the most identifiable feaRturest
The slalom course is placed in an area that is not favorable fish
.
habitat, but is highly desireable for our needs because of Sint wind
conditions and the shallowness of the water,
The Jump site on the other hand, provides exce l la: t shelter for pan,
f , sh in an area where they would not normally be found and is heavily
fished all summer long
Our organization doesn't even require the public boat launch for their
activities, the private pay launch site is more sortable to our needs,
The Lake Owasso Safe Boating Group and their parent organization the
Minnesota Waterskl Association and their counterparts are largely
responsible for the waterskl shows and tournaments conducted for many
ongoing years at Island Lake Park. These events have provided years of
free entertainment on summer weekends for thousands of people and, have
provided a constant flow of summer activity and training for local .
youngsters for over 25 years at no expense to the taxpayers
There are presently eight families who live on the lake or immediately
adjacent t the lake that finance and actively participate in the
operation and maintenance of the course and Jump.
Several other boaters do use the facilities as their home base an d
either keep their boats at the marina an Victoria Street or launch
there for their operations*
Once or twice during each summer our group also exchanges practise
with other groups with like fat i l t l ies on other lakes for practise
sessions.
During these practises the boats used are the ones based on the home
lake
Some of lake goups we exchange practise with are t rom Christmas Lake ,
Prior Lake, Bald Eagle, Bl lesbye (Dakota County )o Eagle Lake
(Henn.
