allows you to make an informed decision regarding where you should set your performance standards
and therefore your resources.
We have similar benchmarking information allowing you to make more informed decisions regarding
understanding whether the need for particular facilities and programs are higher in your community than
other communities;
benchmarking the usage of parks and park maintenance in your community to other communities;
benchmarking the percentage of program participants in your community to other communities;
benchmarking the highest priority facilities in your community to other communities;
benchmarking the success of your marketing programs (and types of marketing materials, i.e. brochure,
web, etc.) with other communities, benchmarking barriers to participation to other communities;
benchmarking the value your citizens feel they receive from parks and recreation compared to other
communities, etc. We have more than 100 benchmarking applications.
There is some correlation to lCMA Benchmarks but the benchmarking information they have is for a
significantly smaller pool of information.
The lCMA benchmarking information is generally from surveys that are done for many city services,
including parks and recreation so they can only ask a few parks and recreation questions. Our
benchmarking data base comes from surveys that are 100% parks and recreation surveys. We probably
have about 10 times the information regarding the types of parks and recreation services, programs, and
facilities in our benchmarking data base than the lCMA.
4. Would it be possible to get a sample survey to share with the Parks and Recreation Commission at
their January 4th meeting so that they can see the type of tool that will be used?
Yes, I have included a couple of examples.
Please let me know if you are in need of any additional information.
Regards
Ron
The team is most interested in option 3 and possibly the benchmarking component.
Our timeline is;
- meet with the Parks & Recreation Commission on January 4th to review survey proposals. At this time
the Commission will recommend one firm and proposal to the Council for their approval.
- meet with the City Council on January 10 to present the Commission recommendation and request
funding for the project.
- meet with the Implementation Organizing Team on January 11 to review the accepted proposal and
survey process.
- beginning January 12 work with selected firm to coordinate the needs assessment survey process.
Thank you again for your work. We are very excited to be embarking on this next step in our efforts to
maintain, upgrade and expand our Parks and Recreation System.
Jill Anfang
Assistant Director
Roseville Parks & Recreation
2660 Civic Center Drive
Roseville, Minnesota 55113
651-792-7102 (direct)
www.cityofroseviIle.com/parks
