The Random House Una blIdged Dictionary defines it as, "The treatment <br />or consideration of, or making a, distinctlon. in. favor, or against a person or thing based, on a <br />group,, class or category to w that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit." <br />Sometimes discrimination can be good if you're looking at willes or diamonds; but at if <br />you're liookhig, at people? People expect to be treated the same way as everyonearound them. <br />In our I democratic slociety today, we are all created equal. There are many different ways that <br />certain People discriminate against certain groups of people. Sadly, most kinds of discrI'mination <br />are used 'in a negative way against groups. Age, race, gender, social class and, disabilities are <br />io <br />. , I , ust a few of the man yways that people can discriminate against each other. However, most <br />discrimination is illegal., <br />So why dioes discrimination still exist incur huge and multi-cultural population? <br />Discrimination still exists today because people seek the need to feel better about themselves, by <br />[�utting other, people down. They need to have power over other people, and it is easier to make <br />criticisms about people who are different. Some people are just afraid of others' differences and <br />cultures., <br />*ver the past 500 years, 'Immigrants from around the world have been coming to Nort� <br />.0 <br />America,, trying to find a better life. These people didn't all just come 'in one wave oi: <br />inuni gnat ion though., When the people from Europe, Asia, Africa w-id Central and out <br />1 -1ally settled "n and <br />America came, they were the new, "different" people for a while, until they fil I <br />found a balance, with eiveryone else. At some point, everyone is that new person on the block or <br />everyone is that new kid who just started at school. Sooner or later, most people find a <br />community, good or bl.II to the United States has generated <br />more, and more discrimination against cultures, races, and other discrimination factors (Color, <br />creed, religion, national origin, sex, marital status, familial status, disability, public assistance, <br />
