IJS�kSPaC+E <br />NEQUEST FOR, COUNCIL ACTION <br />Department Approval <br />11� <br />Date: 11/17/08 <br />Item No.: 7.e <br />City Manager Approval <br />Item Description: Reauthorize Safe Routes to Schools Grant Application for a Sidewalk <br />Along County Road B-2 from Lexington Avenue to Rice Street <br />1 ACKGROUND <br />2 The Council authorized staff to apply for Safe Routes to Schools grant monies in November <br />1 3 of 2007 for a solicitation process in March 2008. The city was not successful in that process. <br />41 Another soli. i.t.at.i.on process for 2009 grants closes later this month. Staff will resubmit the <br />5 application with the support of the City Council. The School District and Ramsey County <br />6 Public Works are supportive of this project. <br />7 POLICY OBJECTIVE <br />8 The Imagine Roseville 2025 visioning process identified sidewalks and trails as important <br />infrastructure to the community. Trails were also a high priority in the Vista 2000 document <br />1� from the early 1990 9 s. At the January 22, 2007 Work Session, staff discussed the various <br />1� 1 grant opportunities for trail and sidewalk projects available in 2007. <br />1 2 <br />1 The Work Session discussion included the possibility of applying for a grant to construct a <br />1� 1111 pathway along County Road B-2 from Lexington Avenue to Rice Street. Council indicated <br />1� 5 that they were in favor of pursuing grant opportunities for this project. <br />1� 6 FINANCIAL IMPACTS <br />1� 7 The maximum infrastructure grant is $175,000.
