. 0
Looking at some issues discussed this last year, it is clear that
money is still not an issue. Keeping a leaf pickup program, phasing out odd
year elections,, policie department ATVs, etc. show me that $$$ grows on
trees around city hall. I m a-intain that this attitude. is not only held by a
few council members
but also by the staff members who have advocated this
kind of spending. We could have Paid for five special elections with all
the money they wasted over the past three years
t
trying o, harass me. That
$50,000 could have, hired a full-time employee to work in your department for
an entire year.
While turnout and cost are issues, I believe that past practice
shows that they are minimal issues at best.
Unfortunately though, this issue has nothing to do with. public
r,tolicy. The quiestioln is whether Klausing should hand, pick someone to sit on.
the council for, 2 years, or whether the people should.
Proudly, I can say that my position is one of public policy. Three
years, ago, I testified before the Charter Commission and was successful in
having a provision inserted, into the draft charter which, called for m a.
special election any time there was more than a one year vacancy. My
position has remained consistent for the past three years.
Also,., as a, note,
's I will not be running in any special election held
in January-April,
1 do intend upon filing if the election is held during the primary
or giener,al elections of 20014.,
While I share your coincem about turnout and cost., I think that the
past 30+ year record of city govemment in Roseville shows that the majority
of peopile could care less, unless there is some political gain in it for
them.,
I have to say that NOT watching the debates probably, aids in mental
stability., i) It just amazes, m,e that someone would even call city hall to
ask about a candidate's position on an 'Issue. Why wouldn't you call, writel,
or e-mail the, candidate directly.? Sheer insanity..
Take care and have a good weekend,
Mayor John Kysylyczyn
Roseville,, 113
Home Office,:
Cell:
--Original.
