The Nature Center is included on City voice and data network via cable modem service. The site
employs one full -time City employee with an on -site office. Services to this facility include data (file
and print sharing, email, Internet) as well as IP Telephony (telephone over a data network) .
Upgrading the network connection will provide sufficient capacity and network control to extend guest
Internet access to visitors via Internet kiosks as well as wireless connectivity within the facility. other
proposed services include enhanced safety and security systems to include IP video security with
remote monitoring and video storage.
Dale Fire Station #3
The Fire Station is included on City voice and data network via cable modem service. The site is the
City's primary fire station, housing numerous personnel staffing shifts 24 hours per day. Services to the
site include data (file and print sharing, email, Internet) , IP Telephony, and requires network access to
City Hall for the processing of all emergency calls into a central database application.
This facility has experienced an inordinate amount of network outages related to the cable modem
network. In the first three months of 2008 the site experienced 82 hours of service outages, impacting
voice and data services for extended periods of time. This required adding a secondary connection
using leased services from Comcast.
This site serves as the City backup Emergency operations Center. To function in this role, reliable and
redundant network access to City Hall, the Internet, and the other two fire stations is critical.
Water Booster Station
This facility is a critical component of the City's water utility system. Currently communications
between this facility and the rest of the water distribution system is via a newly installed radio system
with the central management servers located at the City Public Works Garage. This facility is equipped
with emergency generator power which makes it ideal as a secondary management site for the water
utility system. Connecting the facility to the City fiber network provides an increased level of security
and reliability for the communications system. The site would also serve as a fiber distribution point
for any future extension of the City fiber network to locations in the south portions of the City.
Facilities — Roseville Area School District
Central Park Elementary /Parkview School
These facilities are connected to the District data network using the same cable modems employed by
the City.
