Department Approval
Item Description:
BACKGROUND
Rls&Spvl
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
Date: June 9, 2005
Item No.: 7.h
City Manager Approval
Authorizing Staff to Solicit Bids for Operation of the Clean Up Day
Roseville reinstituted a Clean Up Day in 2003 after a decade hiatus. The service has been Well
received. There have been between 324 and 567 vehicles visiting the site in each of the five years of
the Clean Up Day. Residents have disposed of more than 20 tons of garbage and recycled more than 10
tons of appliances, electronics and tires each year.
The Clean Up Day is held the last Saturday in April each year. The current contract expired after the
latest Clean Up Day on April 26.
POLICY OBJECTIVE
The Clean Up Day serves two purposes. First it gives residents a convenient one -stop spot to dispose of
items that can't go in your normal trash or recycling. Second it reminds residents that it is important to
clean up their property and spurs them to take action. The Code Enforcement division sees the Clean
Up Day as another valuable tool to help keep our City clean.
FINANCIAL IMPACTS
Roseville subsidizes one -third of the disposal cost for items collected at the Clean Up Day. This has
cost the City approximately $6,000 a year. This is budgeted for in the Recycling budget. Disposal
prices are schedule to go up in 2009. By entering into a three -year contract for the Clean Up Day the
City can lock in current lower rates.
REQUESTED COUNCIL ACTION
Authorize staff to solicit bids for operation of the City's Clean Up Day
Prepared by: Tim Pratt, Recycling Coordinator
Page 1 of 1
