continuous dialogue between the administration and employees. Mutually agreed upon and
defined benefits to the employees Will increase their support and commitment to the necessary
changes planned for RFD.
These changes are necessary to ensure our service to the community is the best it can be. We
must always be assessing and changing the Way we do business to meet and exceed the
expectations of our customers. The reciprocal benefit is that the level of commitment from the
community to RFD will also be greater. This is a "win -win" environment. Commitment is a
critical ingredient for all relationships. The internal relationships within the organization and
outside to the public all benefit from higher levels of commitment.
An increase in the positive image of RFD employees to the public and the media will be obtained
as we reach this goal. other fire departments, who have achieve unprecedented internal
commitment, enjoy the benefit of their cities holding their firefighters in high esteem because
they have been recognized for local, regional, state, and national achievements. There are many
examples of how highly motivated and committed fire departments are recognized because they
are committed to innovation, organizational risk taking and trying new programs to improve their
department.
Objectives
There are benefits for the Roseville Fire Department and its employees to be recognized as one
of the best fire departments in the state of Minnesota (and possibly in the nation).
• Continue to develop and implement programs to ensure firefighters are well - equipped and
well - trained to do their job. Our station(s) need to be better staffed for emergency calls. This
is necessary to maintain and improve our ISO rating and to achieve and maintain
accreditation. Improved equipment and training will also raise the quality of crews that are
working together and increase their pride as an employee of the department.
• Develop and implement a strategy to obtain /maintain a commitment from the City for fire
department initiatives.
Benefits for the Roseville Fire Department and the City of Roseville if the department is
recognized as one of the best:
• Favorable insurance rates for businesses and homeowners.
• A fire department with an outstanding reputation will make the City more attractive to
new businesses and new development.
• The citizens of Roseville will have more pride in their fire department and also have a
higher degree of assurance that their tax dollars are being well spent to provide top
quality fire and life safety services.
• Maintaining and/or improving our ISO rating and achieving national accreditation for the
department will provide more leverage to the department for fire- relate funding and for
soliciting businesses and residents to relocate to Roseville.
23
