City Council Regular Meeting - 04/25/05 Minutes - Page 7 Ms. Gunard sought Council support of the School District's ability to keep the Fairview Community Center open and operating. Ms. Gunard spoke to traffic and safety of children in the area of Brimhall School, and increased traffic with the Twin Lakes Redevelopment project; opined that the City did not need any more retail, but needed safe places for the community's children. Ms. Gunard strongly encouraged the City Council to vote in opposition to the proposed Twin Lakes project. John Leatherman, 3013 N Simpson Mr. Leatherman noted that he was speaking on his own behalf, not as a representative of his employer, the theater at Crossroads Mall. Mr. Leatherman opined that if a theater was added to Rosedale Shopping Center, he and his co-workers, along with those employed at HarMar Theater, would be out of a job. Mr. Leatherman spoke to the increased police and safety issues and costs related to a larger theater complex, in addition to increased traffic issues in the area. Richard Osborne, 2172 N Victoria Mr. Osborne spoke to the negative impacts of the proposed Twin Lakes Redevelopment project on a local level, as well as the national and global economy. Mr. Osborne opined that "big box" retailers destroyed a family's wage base, thus destroying the American family, and impacts of huge corporations may be attractive in the short-term, but didn't justify the long-term impacts. Mr. Osborne requested Councilmembers to vote the proj ect down, and do their part locally to help fix the global economic picture.
