March 2, 2005

Roseville City Hall
2660 Civic Center Drive
Roseville, MN 55113

Dear Tom Kough,
I had been planing on attending the city meeting for the Ladyslipper park development
however, I ended up watching it on cable.

I grew up as a kid in a house on Farrington Court which is located on the pond edge.
remember the city putting in the canal and all of us kids in the neighborhood floating
rubber raft boats in it. Yes I do agree, it is a beautiful nature area.

I do like the plans that were presented for Lady slipper park with one exception, the
fishing pier. The idea of a pier is fine, however to allow fishing here, and actually to
promote it I do not like what it will bring.

The rail road trestle that is located on the opposite side of the pond also use to be a
beautiful place to walk down to, Then at some point in time, this changed. This railroad
trestle was listed in a book that came out promoting it as one of the best shoreline
fishing spots in the metro area.
This brought in car loads of people. They spend all day at the trestle until late at night.
Instead of putting the small fish back in the water they are thrown on shore which
makes both an unpleasant site and smell. The Trash is also thrown out of their cars
where they park so they did not have to bring it with them. The railroad trestle looks
more like a garbage dump now. This is truly a shame since it was once a unique, clean
place to enjoy walking to.
The house that I now live in is right by the place that all these people park their cars.
This is located at the corner of South Owasso by the rail road tracks. I can tell you that
along with the fishing large amounts of beer is drank, and it even is a little scary
because their cars are still parked there until well after dark. I often clean the trash up in
this area and once found (4) syringes laying on the ground. The people who come here
to fish, do not appear to be very nice. No one feels safe to go walking to the trestle
anymore.

This issue had been brought up at the March 1,2005 meeting by Scott Higbee,
however Lonne Brokke, quickly assured that it would not be a problem and this issue
was not brought up again. Please walk down to this trestle in the summer and see for
yourselves.
