<br />City Council Study Session - 05/16/05 <br />Minutes - Page 6 <br /> <br />Further discussion ensued regarding the ranking process and <br />apparent confusion of some Councilmembers related to that <br />ranking process; with a consensus found to redo the ranking <br />process and resubmit individual Council rankings to staff by <br />Wednesday, June 1,2005 for inclusion in the packet for the June <br />13, 2005 Council Study Session. <br /> <br />Mayor Klausing clarified the process being sought for ranking by <br />individual Councilmembers of each department; and then <br />ranking the top priorities citywide with a total of six to ten goals. <br /> <br />Further discussion included those items ranked as ongoing (i.e., <br />sanitary sewer lining program); sinking funds for ongoing <br />maintenance items; and depreciation of all assets at an estimated <br />additional $200,000 - $300,000 annually. <br /> <br />Staff was directed to send out blank priority sheets to each <br />Councilmember as requested. <br /> <br />3. Update Regarding School Closing Plan in Mounds View School Closing Plan <br />School District Mounds View <br />School District No. 621 Superintendent Dr. Jan Witthuhn, School District <br />Director of Community Education and Technology Nick Temali, <br />and School Board members Maureen Thompson and Marre Jo <br />Sager were in attendance to update Councilmembers and the <br />public on the school closure process and impacts for I.S.D. No. <br />621. <br /> <br />Dr. Witthuhn provided an overview of the closure process; noted <br />the District's efforts to continue to improve communications <br />among students, staff, residents and local City Councils; and <br />their desire to continue to answer those questions posed to the <br />District. <br /> <br />Dr. Witthuhn addressed the numerous community informational <br />meetings held to-date; criteria used for reaching a decision, based <br />on community input; and the ultimate decision to close both the <br />Snail Lake Elementary School in Shoreview and Pike Lake <br />Elementary School in New Brighton. Dr. Witthuhn noted that <br />District No. 621 students in Roseville would feel little impact <br />with their attendance at Valentine Hills Elementary. Dr. <br />
