<br />City Council Study Session - 05/16/05 <br />Minutes - Page 7 <br /> <br />Witthuhn noted that attempts to place staff according to their <br />seniority; streamlining transitions for students; and provided the <br />repurposed buildings at the former Snail Lake and Pike Lake <br />Elementary Schools. Proposed repurposing of the Snail Lake <br />facility would be to house early education classes previously <br />outsourced to other leased facilities; and to house the District <br />Administration Offices and Board Room, with the gymnasium <br />and cafeteria remaining for community use through bookings <br />with the Community Education Department. Mr. Temali noted <br />that the District staff was currently working with the City of <br />Shoreview for the management of the outdoor athletic fields to <br />assure continued community use. <br /> <br />Dr. Witthuhn summarized the intended timeline for vacation of <br />the Roseville District Office property planned in phases to <br />accommodate fall primary and general elections. <br /> <br />Discussion included the advantages of repurposing the facilities <br />and resources and long-term savings due to decreased <br />enrollments. <br /> <br />Mr. Temali reviewed the repurposing of the Pike Lake <br />Elementary School for education space, with elimination of <br />space in the current Ralph Reeder building and the New Brighton <br />Community Facility; with those programs relocated to the Pike <br />Lake facility, including the food shelf, Early and Adult <br />Education programs; with those transitions anticipated by Labor <br />Day or the start of school. <br /> <br />School Board representatives discussed the Board's desire to <br />enhance communication and the board liaisons within each of the <br />seven communities represented in the District. Representatives <br />encouraged continued discussion between the City of Roseville <br />and the I.S.D. No. 621 Board related to transportation and road <br />issues; safety concerns and signage issues. <br /> <br />Board Representative Maureen Thompson, and her alternate Bob <br />Sundberg, both residents of Arden Hills, are liaisons for the City <br />of Roseville. Ms. Thompson noted the many emotions displayed <br />during the school closures, many due to misinformation, and the <br />need to foster accurate public education and communication to <br />
