Councilmember Kough acknowledged the support of Ramsey County staff and Commissioners and State personnel; as well as others and requested that staff express written appreciation on behalf of the City Council and residents for their support. Mayor Klausing thanked Councilmember Kough for his involvement and support in pursuing this clean up program initiative. No formal action required. 6. Consider Adoption of a Resolution Approving Chris Olson's Request for a Variance and Conditional Use Permit, 2940 Old Highway 8 (PF 3549) Community Development Director Dennis Welsch reviewed a request for a 54 foot variance and a conditional use permit for construction of a 980 square foot detached garage in the front yard of Mr. Olson's property at 2940 Old Highway 8. Mr. Welsch reviewed the options considered by the applicant in working with staff and the Planning Commission; with the resulting compromise brought forward tonight. Councilmember Schroeder sought clarification from staff regarding whether the Planning Commission had approved staff s recommendation; with Mr. Welsch responding that the proposed resolution before the Council represented the Planning Commission's amendments to staffs proposal. Discussion included the setback and common boundaries; lack of public opposition to the application; and that a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) was no longer needed with the amended request. Mayor Klausing opened the meeting for public comment related to this issue.
