<br />City Council Regular Meeting - 06/20/05 <br />Minutes - Page 8 <br /> <br />immediate repairs and enhancements; and to fund an <br />endowment to help ensure the facility's long-term financial <br />viability. Mr. Brokke noted that, as the Task Force process <br />continued, it became evident of the amount required to <br />keep the facility upgraded and operational for the long- <br />term. Mr. Brokke expressed his personal appreciation to <br />everyone for their work to-date and for their generosity; <br />noting that the work was just beginning, and he was <br />looking forward to pursuing matching funds for an <br />endowment program; and recognized those influential <br />within the community, staff and advisory commissions and <br />user groups who had participated so far, and looked <br />forward to the new roles in working with the Oval <br />Advisory Group. <br /> <br />Councilmember Ihlan expressed her personal appreciation <br />to those involved in ensuring the sustainability of the Oval, <br />and looked forward to new ideas being generated to keep <br />this facility as a regional asset. <br /> <br />Mayor Klausing concurred with Councilmember Ihlan; <br />encouraging the momentum of the Task Force <br />recommendations related to structural issues; operational <br />efficiencies; and additional funding sources. <br /> <br />Councilmember Schroeder recognized the work ofthe Task <br />Force in going beyond the call of duty and the excellence <br />of their report; but from his engineering outlook, realized <br />that there was additional work to be accomplished and he <br />didn't want to lose the expertise of those on the Task Force. <br /> <br />Discussion ensued as to how best to address the financial <br />projections; corporate sponsorship; business models <br />addressed in the report; and the Advisory Group and FOF <br />ability to build on the Task Force recommendations; and <br />pursuit of some items through the upcoming 2006 budget <br />process and individual department budgets. <br /> <br />Councilmember Schroeder noted that, with staff clarifying <br />that they would be returning to the City Council to follow <br />through on future actions, he had no problem accepting the <br />
