Copies of previous reports prpared relative to the potentiaf fire station sites
are attached for your information. The first report was in response to a
request by the City Council to i-he Planning Commiss'son to hold a public
hearing ragarding a station site at the northwest carner of County Road 8
and Western. Commeni-s regarding that station iocation are noted in the
Planning Repori- (No. 770-73 Dated July 11, i973). The principal
asset to the site was the fact that it was convenien# fo a number of the
present members of the Fire Department. The principal liabilities of the
site was that i was not si'rategicallylocated to efficiently serve areas north
of Highwpy 36 due to the freeway barrier. The Planning Commission
recommended against the site.
2. ihe Commission was then askeci to review potential sites in the area of
County Road B and Dale Sfreei. A site was studied and recommended at the
southeast corner of the intersection invalving three parcels of land which
would accommodate p drive-way access to County Road B east of Dale Street.
The principaf, disaclvantage of this property was that it was located on p grade
(Dale Street Soth bound) and would require considerable filf. The Council
ordered appraisals of i-he properties and found the total cost to be potentially
very high, Tis site is indicated on the sketch at the left as Site "B".
3. The Cauncil subsequently requested the Planning Commission to consider sites
at Cauni-y Road B-2 and Dale Streef. It is in the vicinity of this location that
previaus studies done in the post had indicated as the most appropriafe locafion
to serve the eastern end of the city. At the March 6th meeting af the Planning
Commission, a public hearing was held on three possibilities in the irrmediate
vicinity of the intersection.
