Paul Walkex moved and Burke Ray�nd seconded, tha.t the minutes o£ the meeting <br />o£ April 1Q, 1974, be approved. Ayes: S- Nays: 0. <br />2. The League of Minnesota Human Rights Co�nmissions will hold its annual meeting on <br />May 11, I974. The League now has 42 members representing over half o£ the HRC's <br />in the State. <br />3. The Maplewood Human Rights Commission has sen� a resolution to the Maplewood City <br />Council requ�esting that a Cxtizens Ca�ni.ttee be appointed to review the delivery <br />of "hwnan services" in Maplewood and to xecommend a hzunan sexvices prograrn for the <br />city. A9aplewood. has noied that St. Pau1 has five neighborhood comm�mi�y service <br />centers ana the Maplewood HRC would like to have an o£fxce created within <br />Maplewaod's botmdaries so that Maplewood citizens wi11 have xeady access to ihose <br />serrrices . <br />4. The Spring Lake Park School Dxstrict has instiiuted. a program in "Whi�e 5tuclies" <br />in an effort to tackle the problem of White racism through the med.iwn of the class <br />room. <br />S. There wiZ1 be a meeting on Ma.y 15, at the Cedarholm Golf Course sponsoxed by the <br />Greater Metropolitan Federation and the Center of Urban Encotxnter for the puxpose <br />of discussing hzzman r�.ghts issues in the North Suburban Area. Further znformation <br />can be obtained fram the Federation or the Center. <br />6. The Arden Hills Htnnan Rights Connnission sponsored a lecture meeting on May 1, at <br />which Bi11 English, the Affirmat�ve Action Officer for GontroZ Data Corporation, <br />spoke on hzs view of Affirmative Action. Control Data sets corporation wide policy <br />but delegates responsibility for the detailed program itself to its indiwidual <br />lower level managers, Mr, English's concern is ihat those managers who wil.l be <br />administering the Affirmative Action pxogram be sensitized to the need for such an <br />ef�oxt and be firmly :.onm�a.tted to it, <br />7. Ann Berry and Dave Ha.11 at�ended the April 27th H��n�n Rights Conference sponsored <br />by the State Department of Human Rights and the League of Miz�nesota Htiuitan Rights <br />Gommissions. Ann's repoz°t is attached to these m�nutes. Dave attended the <br />Affz.rmative Action workshop at whYCh Clarence Harris from Univac defined the <br />differences between equal employment oppox°tunity and affirmative action as the <br />differences between a pass�ve and an active program. <br />8. Dave Hall wi11 re-contact the Har Mar Center to try �o obtain a satisfactory <br />response to the Gommission's earlier expressions of concern about adequate access <br />and facilitie� for handicapped persons using the center. <br />
