<br />City Council Study Session - 01/23/06 <br />Minutes - Page 4 <br /> <br />2.a.l <br /> <br />Funding for the OVAL <br />Parks and Recreation Director Lonnie Brokke <br />provided a chronological summary of the activities <br />already having taken place regarding the 2006 Capital <br />Bonding Bill request for the Guidant John Rose <br />Minnesota OV AL, as previously outlined by the <br />OVAL Task Force; and directed by City Council for <br />pursuit of funding. <br /> <br />Mr. Brokke noted the involvement of Councilmember <br />Maschka in pursuing the funding; and the extent to <br />which the City of Roseville had provided local, <br />private and user financing for the OV AL over the <br />years; and the original intent that the facility's <br />regional significance procure regional financing. <br /> <br />Mr. Brokke reviewed various capital improvement <br />needs at the OVAL; recent tours provided by staff to <br />various Senate and House representatives and the <br />Senate Capital investment Committee; and inclusion <br />of their input and suggestions to ensure their support. <br /> <br />Mr. Brokke advised that staff and the OVAL Task <br />Force, along with Councilmember Maschka, would <br />continue to work with local Representatives and <br />Senator Marty to pursue success of the funding <br />request. <br /> <br />City Manager Beets advised Councilmembers that <br />staff would continue to pursue the items as detailed <br />by Mr. Brokke, unless otherwise directed by the City <br />Council. <br /> <br />Councilmember Kough noted that, in his recent <br />discussions with State Senators and Representatives <br />in greater Minnesota, they expressed favorable <br />comments related to the proposed funding. <br /> <br />Discussion included those items specific to the <br />OVAL as a regional facility; and those items specific <br /> <br />Funding for the <br />OVAL <br />
