<br />City Council Regular Meeting - 07/26/04 <br />Minutes - Page 33 <br /> <br />recommendations and explaining his rationale for those <br />recommendations. <br /> <br />Mr. Beets addressed the City Council portion of the budget and <br />the relationships with community groups and other government <br />entities and agencies, identifying whether to continue <br />membership in the I-35W Corridor Coalition; whether to <br />terminate appropriation to the Roseville Ambassador <br />Foundation; and retain plans for an annual City Council goal- <br />setting session. Mr. Beets recommended cutting the I-35W <br />Corridor Coalition membership and Roseville Ambassador <br />Foundation appropriation and sought Council direction. Mr. <br />Beets noted that, while serving a purpose and having community <br />value, they did not provide direct services to residents. <br /> <br />Mayor Klausing recognized the implications to the City and its <br />residents of metro-wide issues (i.e., fiscal disparities) and <br />questioned the value of the associations or impacts of eliminating <br />the City's identity with them. <br /> <br />Mr. Beets noted that the City continued to retain membership in <br />the League of Minnesota Cities (LMC) and their main function <br />was lobbying the legislature on city-related causes. <br /> <br />Mayor Klausing noted that the lobbying efforts of the LMC were <br />state-wide and may represent some communities in opposition to <br />the City's interests. <br /> <br />Councilmember Schroeder noted that the 1-3 5W Corridor <br />Coalition was not included in the 2005 proposed budget. <br /> <br />City Manager Beets acknowledged that the budget book was his <br />proposed budget and included the recommendations for <br />reductions and increases as outlined in his budget memo. <br /> <br />Councilmember Schroeder questioned the impacts to the City's <br />GIS data for the community, provided by the I-35W Corridor <br />Coalition, and whether that savings of $35,000 would be a cost <br />incurred elsewhere. <br /> <br />Mayor Klausing opined that the I-35W Corridor Coalition <br />
