<br />City Council Regular Meeting - 07/26/04 <br />Minutes - Page 7 <br /> <br />carrier would cover the loss. <br /> <br />City Manager Beets responded that, if the item(s) was <br />covered by either insurance carrier, staff would seek <br />recovery . <br /> <br />Councilmember Kough questioned the change-out of <br />doors on the Police Chief s office and rationale for the <br />change. <br /> <br />Public Works Director and Project Manager Duane <br />Schwartz responded that that particular door had been <br />used elsewhere in the project. <br /> <br />Councilmember Ihlan questioned several additions for <br />miscellaneous work performed by Kellington Construction <br />that had not been identified on drawings and questioned if <br />the cost over-run would be borne by the City or the person <br />responsible for not including the work on the drawings. <br /> <br />Mr. Schwartz responded that, as with most remodel <br />proj ects, unforeseen detail work was found due to <br />inaccuracies in, or previous contractors not following, <br />original as-built drawings. Mr. Schwartz noted that this <br />was a risk undertaken by the City, when acting as their <br />own General Contractor. Mr. Schwartz noted that some <br />items weren't covered in any contractor responsibilities or <br />contractors; and that Kellington Construction the most <br />qualified contractor on si te to perform the necessary <br />modifications as they became apparent, since they were <br />available to do them expediently. <br /> <br />Councilmember Ihlan questioned the landscaper's need to <br />bore under the street, rather than using other alternatives; <br />and the cost identified for black dirt moved on site by <br />Imperial Developers. <br /> <br />Mr. Schwartz responded that several irrigation lines had <br />been added to the proj ect, and rather than remove existing <br />curb and gutter, it was most cost-effective to bore under <br />the street.
