Councilmember Ihlan opined support that such are-purposing was a good starting point if the additional members were appointed based on their environmental focus and to serve as an initial forum to refer issues to other advisory commissions and/or agencIes. Councilmember Ihlan spoke in support of the future creation of a Business Advisory Council. Councilmember Schroeder spoke against the addition of either an Environmental or Business Advisory Commission, opining that other commissions and staff already handled those issues. Councilmember Schroeder further opined that, the addition of another Environmental Task Force or Commission would add to the confusion, with people not knowing whom to contact with their various issues or concerns; and further noted that the expertise was already available by staff and consulting agencies. Councilmember Schroeder spoke against committing additional staff time with additional commissions. Councilmember Maschka requested comment from the City Attorney regarding whether the Public Works and Transportation Commission could handle environmental issues and/or policy. Counciln1ember Maschka concurred with Councilmember Schroeder's concerns related to duplication of resources and confusion regarding environmental issues. Councilmember Maschka spoke against increasing the Public Works and Transportation Commission from five to seven members; and that it was not necessary to seek specialized environmentally- focused members. Councilmember Maschka spoke against the addition of a Business Advisory Commission, supporting cooperation and involvement with the Chamber of Commerce, rather than taking additional staff time. Mayor Klausing spoke in support of expanding the Public Works and Transportation Commission from five to seven members; but was not supportive of those positions being environmentally
