City Council Regular Meeting - 11/08/04
Minutes - Page 15

for MnDOT to provide additional information to citizens.

Maschka moved, Schroeder seconded adoption of
Resolution No. 10258 entitled, "Resolution Requesting the
Minnesota Department of Transportation to Reconsider the
Closure of the Median Crossover on Snelling Avenue at
Oakcrest Street."

Councilmember Schroeder suggested that there be a link
between this MnDOT action, if no recourse to stop the
closing of the cross-over, and future discussions (i.e., GT
building demolition and railroad crossing swapping on
Lincoln Drive).

Councilmember Maschka concurred that future discussions
should be initiated regarding the extension of Lincoln
Drive; noting that the railroad could prove problematic.

City Engineer Debra Bloom noted that staff had held
previous informational discussions with residents regarding
the Fry access and potential realignment of Lincoln Drive,
and installation of a signal at Fry or Hershel. Ms. Bloom
noted that this would have required displacement of at least
two homes; and those neighbors in attendance expressed
limited interest in the proposed project. Ms. Bloom further
noted that, if the Council so directed, staff could pursue
that option again to determine current interest.

Councilmember Maschka suggested, and Councilmembers
concurred, that the Council wait to see MnDOT's reaction
to tonight's resolution, and then explore options if they
proceed with closing the cross-over.

Roll Call
Ayes: Schroeder, Kough, Maschka, Ihlan and Klausing.
Nays: None.

5.
