City Council Regular Meeting - 11/08/04
Minutes - Page 17

radio equipment purchase expenses, with the municipal subsidy
per radio ordered set at $1,995 per unit, with a total authorization
for 287 radio units. Sergeant Johnson noted that the number of
radios being requested by Roseville Public Safety Departments
was less than the total authorized (133 radios for the Police
Department and 78 for the Fire Department), as well as fewer
than the total number of radio units currently in use by the
departments. Sergeant Johnson reviewed the total purchase cost
or radio equipment for Roseville Public Safety Departments
($555,707.59) and the subsidy granted ($359,100.31); creating a
post -subsidy purchase cost of radio equipment for Roseville at
$196,607.28. Sergeant Johnson further noted that the cost
allocation of the radio purchase request tonight by the Police
Department was $103,003.97, and the Fire Department was
$93,603.31; in addition to vehicle installation costs for the
mobile 800 MHz radios, which is planned through a county-wide
installation contract for all public safety vehicles once the system
goes online in late 2005.

Assistant Fire Chief Tim O'Neill was present during this
discussion as well.

Discussion included whether purchase of additional radio units
would be practical at this time to utilize the subsidy; but with
licensing costs, it was determined there was no incentive to do
so. Discussion also included whether the purchase price was
included in the current 2004 and 2005 budgets respectively; with
Finance Director Miller confirming the expense inclusion.

Maschka moved, Ihlan seconded, approved purchase of 188, 800
MHz radios to be purchased under the County-wide municipal
program; at the post -subsidy cost of, and not to exceed
$196,607.28.

Roll Call
Ayes: Schroeder, Kough, Maschka, Ihlan and Klausing.
Nays: None.

7.
