<br />Regular City Council Minutes - 2/3/03 <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />II. <br /> <br />Review Agenda <br />Mayor Kysylyczyn called for any comments or discussion on <br />the Consent Agenda. There were no comments. <br /> <br />III. <br /> <br />Presentations <br />Mayor Kysylyczyn revised the presentations, with the City <br />Insurance Program update first; followed by Legislative <br />Concepts related to Land Use and Redevelopment. <br /> <br />A. Update on City's Insurance Program <br />Assistant Finance Director Brenda Davitt presented a brief <br />overview of the City's Insurance Plan for Council <br />information and comment as part of the renewal of City <br />property/liability insurance through the League of <br />Minnesota Cities Insurance Trust (LMCIT), a pooled risk <br />pool that includes most cities in Minnesota. <br /> <br />Doug Holm, representing LM CIT, was present to answer <br />any questions of the Council. <br /> <br />Ms. Davitt encouraged Council approval of Consent <br />Agenda Item VI., E., regarding not waiving statutory <br />limits for City liability as the action reconlll1ended by staff <br />in the best interests and for the most protection for the <br />City. <br /> <br />Councilmember Maschka asked staff to review the <br />apparent breach in liability coverage and potential City <br />exposure in case of a major mishap with multiple injuries <br />to Fire Department personnel, asking that staff and the <br />insurance company review the coverage available after the <br />self-insurance amount of$350,000. <br /> <br />City Attorney Jay Squires and Councilmember Klausing <br />discussed Statutory limits. <br /> <br />Further discussion included the responsible party in <br />determining the City's liability for each claim; advantages <br />of using the LMCIT as a third party in negotiating <br />potential claims; Builder's Risk insurance coverage on the <br />upcoming Public Works and Public Safety building <br /> <br />Review <br />Agenda <br /> <br />Presentations <br /> <br />City's Insurance <br />Program Update <br />
