Regular City Council Minutes - 3/1 0/03
Page 2

III.

Presentations

A. Status Update on Mayor's Regional Community
Center and Regional Performing Arts Initiative
Mayor Kysylyczyn updated Councilmembers and the
public regarding this initiative; stating that two meetings
had been held with community leaders regarding a
regional community or performing arts center. Mayor
Kysylyczyn advised that the meetings were held with
representatives from the cities Roseville, Shoreview, St.
Paul, Arden Hills, Little Canada, Falcon Heights, St,
Anthony, area School Boards, Gallery 96, and the North
Suburban Cable Commission.

Mayor Kysylyczyn advised that the initial meeting of the
group was held in December with the consensus of the
group being that there was little interest in a regional
community center, and that the City of Roseville would be
in a stand alone situation on this issue. Mayor Kysylyczyn
stated that there appeared to more interest, particularly
from the Mayor of St. Anthony and the Cable
Commission, for a regional performing arts center.

Mayor K ysylyczyn stated that the second group meeting
was held in February of 2003, following the state budget
deficit announcements, and met with little interest in
moving forward at this time given the economic impacts
on some of the potential cities. Mayor Kysylyczyn stated
that, while the issue was not being put on the back burner,
it was being delayed by the regional group at this time due
to economic constraints.

Mayor Kysylyczyn concluded that he would be continuing
discussions with interested parties regarding the possibility
of any public/private partnership potential that might be
available.

Mayor Kysylyczyn expressed appreciation to Parks and
Recreation Director Brokke for his research of materials
on regional facilities, advising that they were available by
contacting Mr. Brokke at 415-2100.

Presentations

Status Update on
Mayor's Regional
Community Center
& Regional
Performing Arts
Initiative
