<br />Regular City Council Minutes - 3/10/03 <br />Page 3 <br /> <br />B. <br /> <br />Status Update on the Primary Election Task Force <br />Communications Specialist Carolyn Curti summarized <br />information provided at the February 27, 2003 Primary <br />Election Task Force meeting that was held in public <br />forum; with sixty-eight (68) people attending the meeting. <br />Ms. Curti provided numerous information regarding State, <br />County and City legislation regarding municipal primaries <br />and further research information on the issue, as well as <br />written public comment received to-date. <br /> <br />Mayor Kysylyczyn advised that there was an apparent <br />confusion among some citizens as to the intent of the Task <br />Force. Mayor Kysylyczyn and Ms. Curti clarified the <br />purpose of the Task Force was simply to collect <br />information and analyze the advantages and disadvantages <br />of municipal primary elections. <br /> <br />Ms. Curti stated that it was the consensus of the <br />approximate sixty-eight (68) people making up the Task <br />Force, to offer a recommendation to the City Council as a <br />result of their meetings. Ms. Curti stated that the <br />consensus appeared to be sixty-one (61) Task Force <br />members in favor of keeping the municipal Primary; 1 <br />vote to eliminate the municipal Primary; with one (1) <br />noted abstention; and the remainder staff and/or <br />Councilmembers in attendance and not voicing their <br />opInIon. <br /> <br />Councilmember Schroeder asked that staff provide all e- <br />mail addresses to Councilmembers to those residents <br />responding to provide an opportunity for follow-up and <br />further discussion if so desired by Councilmembers. <br /> <br />Mayor Kysylyczyn summarized some of the additional <br />applicable information received from various sources <br />regarding this issue. <br /> <br />Mayor Kysylyczyn asked staff to clarify the actual cost for <br />the Primary (i.e., election judge wages and training, <br />mailing Absentee Ballots, ballot development and <br /> <br />Status Update on <br />the Primary <br />Election Task <br />Force <br />
