Regular City Council Minutes - 6/02/03
Page 27

advise the City Council of the ultimate resolution.

IX.

Organizational Business

A. Parks and Recreation Commission Student
Appointment
Kysylyczyn moved, Schroeder seconded, Ryan Majerus
as a student representative to the Parks and Recreation
Commission. Mayor Kysylyczyn had introduced Ryan
earlier in the evening while he was in attendance at the
meeting.

Mayor Kysylyczyn noted that the one student currently
serving on the Parks and Recreation Commission would
be attending her last meeting this month, as she would be
leaving the area to pursue her college career.

Councilmember Klausing advised that he would be voting
against the appointment, with no reference intended for
the student representative, but as a matter of principle in
his continuing concern over the procedure used in filling
commission vacancies (i.e., consistency in advertising
vacancies and reviewing candidates prior to their
appointment).

Mayor Kysylyczyn clarified that these non-voting student
appointments to commissions are encouraged and open-
ended to get more students involved in local government;
and maintained that student representative applicants had
been advertised for both the Human Rights and Parks and
Recreation Commission.

Councilmember Klausing sought clarification that the
positions had indeed been advertised; with Mayor
Kysylyczyn responding in the affirmative.

Roll Call
Ayes: Schroeder, Maschka and Kysylyczyn.
Nays: None.
Abstentions: Klausing

Organizational
Business

Parks and
Recreation
Commission Student
Appointment
